Aris Shirin är pedagog, författare och designer. Hon är docent i grafisk design vid St. John’s University i Queens, New York. I sin bok Design Elements: Color fundamentals skriver hon om neutrala färger:

Neutrals are hues that have a large percentage of brown or grey, and they are one of the most overlooked and underutilized categories of color. If used correctly , they are great all-purpose tones. They can ad emphasis and help a viewer navigate through content without the distraction of specific cultural connotations.
